Early morning Rooster are feeding around the beaches on large schools of mullet.
The yellowtail are still scattered around. Definitely fewer then last week and assorted sizes from 10-35lbs.
A few Dorado are being caught daily. Mostly on sardines on the troll or drift.
A few wahoo are being caught on the south end of Cerralvo.

A few nice dorado have been caught around the island mostly around the sargasso paddies. Almaco Jacks are starting to show up in numbers around the seamounts. But the real story for the week has been the yellowtail.

This week the yellowtail moved into the bay literally 10 minutes outside the marina. These fish were consistently some of the largest of the year averaging 25lbs with some brutes tipping the scales at 35lbs.
A few Dorado are being caught around the island near the sargasso paddies. This should continue to improve as the conditions continue to change to our summer pattern.
A few Almaco Jacks cousins to the AmberJack around the seamounts. This is the season for Pez Fuerte. So far they’ve been on the smaller size 20-30lbs but the 60/80 pounders won’t be far behind.
Cabrilla and snapper are hanging on the rocky high spots as they also are finishing the spawning season.

We are still having killer days on the yellowtail, cabrilla and snapper but finding these schools is becoming more difficult. The yellowtail have moved up in the water column, chumming sardines then casting into the boil seems to be working best.

There are plenty of yellowtail around the island and rocky points. They still seem to be moving around a lot so some days you find them right away and some days it’s like wack a mole.
The tuna that we’re feeding up around Punta Norte have seemed to vanish. That’s not uncommon for tuna this early in the season.

The fishing in general is quite good. They seem to be moving around a lot more than normal. most of the normal yellowtail spots are close to each other so you just keep moving around until you find them. some paddies are starting to hold Dorado in the 20lb class. Bottom fishing has been especially good on the falling tide. Pin either a Mackerel or sardine with 4-6 oz of lead on any metered structure and you will find Cabrilla and Pargo in the 12-15 pound class eager to bite. Good news on the Tuna front. The north end of Cerralvo is giving up a few 150-200 lb class daily. It’s a hero or zero deal. But you’re patience will be rewarded if you’re willing to put in the time.

I saw boats anchored on the high spot of the seamount chumming sardines with yellowtail boiling all around them. Casting live baits or artificial swim baits into the boils was automatic bendo.
We also have Cabrilla and large Pargo mixed in. These fish are still pre spawn so I’m guessing we have a few more weeks of this before they move on to cooler waters.
Normally after the yellowtail move out we start getting into their larger cousins the brutal Pez Fuerte.

The Yellowtail and AmberJacks are the main targeted species for this time of year. The yellowtail are mixed in with both Cabrilla and Pargo and pacific white Bonito. In addition there has been schools of Dorado paddie hopping around the island.

Limits of yellowtail upwards of 35 lbs. The weather improves dramatically and the yellowtail,AmberJacks, grouper and Snapper are abundant.

It’s looking like the seamounts are starting to load up.
The Pargo and Cabrilla are mixed in on the rocky points as well with some yellow snapper, the largest I’ve ever seen.
