La Paz Fishing Report / October 4th 2020
Weather & Bait
Â
Up and down, that seems to be the trend for the 2020 season.
Â
Just last week, fishing looked like October was ready to kick in, then boom the fish got lock jaw and stopped biting. The Marlin that we’re at El Charro the wahoo at punta Norte the tuna that were spotted here and there have seem to disappear. We do have a full moon, so whether that had an effect who knows. The water is starting to get a little too warm up here in La Paz another negative but, should start to cool off with fall around the corner. Sardines are still available for purchase at Tecolote. The funny thing is you have to go further to buy bait, then to catch fish( Dorado are literally all over the bay. These are mostly little peanuts with a few medium size fish mixed in.

We are still getting reports that the Tuna are south of us just out of range for day trips. We can only keep praying they will continue their migration north. It looks like the wahoo that were all over punta a Norte last week have moved to the south end of the island and are now on the chew down there. This is well within our range and we have boats there as I write. We had a Blue Marlin Approx. #250lbs caught and released off Partida this week as we are now in the heart of the Black and Blue season.
Â
All signs are pointing towards a very fruitful fall fishing. There’s no shortage of cooler fillers, so if you’re looking for great eating fish to pack home there are plenty of Pargo, cabrilla, triggers as well as Huachinango and small dorado.
The fishing crowds have definitely picked up, usual for this time of year. This will allow us to have more boats in different areas at the same time, giving us a better read of the feeding activities. Will keep you posted.
