La Paz Fishing Report / January 30th 2021
Weather & Bait
Our winter weather should be the envy of the world.
With daytime temps in the mid to high 70’s, while Dallas daytime highs hit 28 degrees. I should be able to end the report with that.
Overall the crowds are still pretty light. I heard the airlines debacle is working it’s way out, so that’s good.
Our typical seasonal North winds are doing their thing giving us 2-3 days a week of comfortable fishing and a few days of bouncing around. This is very normal unfortunately hard to forecast. As we move closer to spring these winds will start to diminish allowing for more fishing days.
The bait is still solid, mostly large baits like Mackerel and Caballitos are being made in the bay. Some days are easier then others. When they school up in the same place for a few days the pesky sea lions will find and scatter them.
The water is cold and green which is what we expect for this time of year.
Fish Talk
Fishing really hasn’t changed much from last week. Yellowtail and Almaco jacks are the main targets. Most rocky points and seamounts are starting to consistently hold fish. This trend should continue and get better as we slide into March. Cabrilla and Pargo are mixed in along with the pesky but good eating triggerfish. Makes great ceviche.
Not much more to add, other then I saw some negative press from the US state Department. Honestly I don’t know where this comes from. Yes there is COVID in Baja, as there is in the states. I can definitely say there is more mask compliance and overall awareness in La Paz then anywhere Ive been in the US. Most of the locals are now getting their 3rd Booster shot, so again I don’t understand the concern all of a sudden. Anyway it’s fine here, the air is warm and beer is cold. We hope to see you soon.
Be safe
Keep the faith
