La Paz Fishing Report / february 20th 2021
Weather & Bait
Last week we had a lot of wind, even a few days the port was closed so I don’t think you missed too much.
Normally this time of year is a bit slow due to spring break being around the corner. Since Mexico doesn’t really have any travel restrictions I
believe this years spring break is going to be crazier then ever. If your planning on coming down I would definitely start looking at flights.
The Whale sharks are in full swing with plenty of these giants close to shore feeding. This is a real treat especially if
the wind isn’t cooperating for other boating activities. It’s a must do.
As I said the wind has been a bit of a bummer, with strong North blows sometimes the entire week. We should have a few more weeks of
this before the spring weather starts to switch over allowing many more days on the water.
Fish Talk
Not much has changed regarding the bite. Perhaps a couple more fish per boat, a good thing. Both yellowtail and Almaco jacks are settlingÂ
Â
in around the seamounts and rocky spots. Jigging or slow trolling live bait at depth using weights or down riggers are attracting both theÂ
Â
Jacks and cabrilla and Pargo. The Sierra have seemed to move on as well as the Dorado.
Â
The yellowtail have been nice size, ranging 20-25 lbs. with many swimming with jewelry on their lips due to out muscling the anglers andÂ
Â
getting rocked. Based on the fish counts I believe we are in for an epic YT season. We just need to get a few more days a week on the water.
Â
The short of it is things are looking good. Our YT and bottom fishing should be strong thru May transitioning into our Dorado and StripedÂ
Â
Marlin.Â
Â
Come on down and enjoy our 85 degree winter weather.
