Another Yellowtail Week

La Paz Fishing Report / April 18th 2021

Weather

Honestly there’s not much that has changed in the last week, and the crowds have definitely thinned out with the ending of spring break; The weather conditions have been nice and starting to stabilize.
The mornings are still a little cool with some high clouds but, by afternoon we are in the mid 80s digging on the sun.

Water temps are on the rise, as I said last week, this will continue to push off the Yellowtail to deeper water replacing them with their much larger cousin the AmberJack. We are still seeing a build up of sargasso. That’s a good sign, on the flip side we have also have had some areas where the Red tide has come up, no good. This normally happens every year and should only last for a few weeks.

Fish Talk

We had a few trips this week of spearo’s that did really well shooting yellowtail and Cabrilla on the seamounts. As May creeps up we will start to transition into our summer season. Normally there’s a bit of a lull in general except for the AJ’s. And I don’t mean to take anything away from that fishery. This Brutes average in the 50’s and will exceed 100lbs, although we rarely get to see them that large because they just shred your gear.

There is literally bait everywhere. I can sit in my backyard and watch fish ripping thru schools of sardines. So we’re hoping that news makes it to the tuna and Dorado this year. Fingers crossed.
Now with the new addition to our fleet Cazador, a 41’ Riviera we will start taking reservations on single day trips or multiple day fishing adventures. As soon as she gets cleaned up we will post some pics. This will be a great addition for our Mag bay trips.
Anyway that’s about it.
Keep the faith
Scotto
