La Paz Fishing Report / March 8th 2020
Weather & Bait
Hey Hey Hey ! It’s the time of the year for Yellowtail !
The week started off with chilly mornings and overcast skies and mid day temperatures were in the high 70’s and in definite need of sunscreen. The northerlies are still blowing but, as March approaches we are starting to see less intensity and longer stretches of calm weather. This is the normal pattern.
Honestly speaking here’s not much to say that differentiates this week from last. Baits more than plentiful in the bay, a must if your headed off shore. The Dorado are still stacked up in the bay in the 10-18lb class. We are starting to get large paddies of Sargasso grass building in the channel. This should concentrate the Dorado even more making them even easier to catch if that’s possible.
Fish Talk
Yellowtail are now being found on the traditional spots. These fish are larger than the previous weeks ranging in the 20-30lb class. Im fully convinced they have found their seasonal homes as there’s no real concentration of fish but, every boat is picking up one or two a day. As the conditions stabilize this should improve.
We found the yellowtail still at depth, using down riggers slow trolling mackerel at 230 feet deep. On the same fishing grounds Cabrilla, Pargo and pacific white bonito are being caught deploying the same methods, but new rods & reels by our newest sponsors at Penn Fishing
We have a bit of wind coming on Sunday but by Tuesday the weather is looking up and our guests will be out in force. There’s been no signs of the tuna that blessed us with their presence last year but, we’re hopeful and on the look out.

What's New
Finally after months of waiting our newest addition to the fleet has arrived !
The 51’ leopard Power Cat Virgin Blue will be provisioned and out on her first charter next week. As soon as she’s cleaned up from a long haul from the BVI I will post some pics.
This is a great addition and the first in her class for unlimited opportunities for either day trips to the island, or multi day trips discovering the hidden jewels of the Sea of Cortez.
Inquire at our office or web page for details and pricing.
Until next week,
Keep the faith
