La Paz Fishing Report: Steady Bottom Fishing and Scattered Dorado in May 2026

Steady bottom fishing for cabrilla and snapper continued around La Paz this week, with a few yellowtail still in the mix and scattered dorado offshore.

Fishing around La Paz this past week was a little mixed, with changing wind conditions and some unsettled offshore water making the pelagic bite less consistent than usual. Early morning west winds throughout the week created some choppy conditions on certain days, especially offshore, but anglers still found solid action on bottom species and a few dorado willing to bite.

La Paz Fishing Conditions This Week

Conditions shifted throughout the week with calm windows mixed in between windy mornings and changing water conditions. Offshore water remained inconsistent in certain areas, which slowed down the dorado bite at times, but overall there were still fish around for crews adapting to the conditions.

Live sardina continued to be the top bait across most trips, especially for bottom fishing around structure and rocky zones.

Bottom Fishing Remains the Most Consistent Bite

Bottom fishing was once again the most reliable option this week. Cabrilla provided steady action around rocky structure, with snapper mixed in on several trips as well.

Anglers using live bait and jigging techniques had the best success, especially during the calmer morning hours. Captains also reported that there are still a few yellowtail hanging around the same areas where the cabrilla bite has been strongest, giving anglers an extra surprise on some trips.

While the bite wasn’t wide open every day, the fish are definitely still around for anglers willing to stay patient and work the structure carefully.

Dorado Still Showing Offshore

The dorado bite remained scattered but productive enough to keep offshore trips interesting. A few boats found fish trolling and working cleaner patches of water around floating debris and current lines.

The offshore action wasn’t as consistent as the bottom fishing this week, partly due to the morning west winds and unsettled water conditions, but there are still good signs as water temperatures continue warming up heading deeper into spring.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this was one of those typical spring weeks in La Paz where conditions changed day by day, but steady bottom fishing kept rods bent for most crews. Cabrilla continue leading the action, a few yellowtail are still hanging around, and dorado are slowly becoming more active offshore.

Things are starting to line up nicely as we move closer into the warmer season, and there’s definitely reason to stay optimistic for the next few weeks on the water.
