August 22nd Fishing Report

La Paz Fishing Report / August 22nd 2021

Weather & Bait

It feels like we’re rounding third on summer, I can’t believe how fast summer goes. The weather is hot and humid with a chance of rain in the forecast for next week. September is historically the month that we experience the most severe tropical conditions. Currently there is only one named storm to the south of us but I don’t think we’ll see much from her, fingers crossed.
It looks like the tides have flushed out all the dirt and debris from last weeks rains, leaving a few busted up sargasso paddies and tree branches near the arroyos. If your lucky enough to find one of these floating hotels you will likely be rewarded with limits of Dorado up to 30 pounds.

Fischgespräch

If Billfish are on your list, the bite has been pretty steady. Both Striped Marlin and Sailfish are packing on the pounds feeding on everything from sardines to ballyhoos. Slow trolling live baits in the open waters offshore with 50lb fluorocarbon leader with 2/0-4/0 circle hooks are enough to land the fish and still make a easy release.
Overall, fishing is good. It’s just not as consistent as we normally have in August. I personally would recommend fishing early in the day for whatever your target species is, finishing the day off the rocky points for Cabrilla and Pargitos if you want to bring home some great eating fish.
Yes, once again another week without Tuna. The conditions are so perfect, this is really frustrating. A more consistent bite has started to form south of us, so hopefully it’s just timing. Tuna in the 20-50lb range have made it up as far as the light house in east cape but, that’s where it ends. A few Wahoo are on the chew on the south end of Cerralvo island. This bite doesn’t usually get going until October so anything between now and then is a bonus.
I did notice that American Airlines are starting to make flight adjustments on their schedules. I’m not sure if it’s due to light crowds or something else. We will look into this and get back to you.

That’s about it for the week.
Please be safe, and kind to each other
Den Glauben bewahren
