La Paz Fishing Report / February 9th 2019
Weather & Bait
I can’t say much is going on in La Paz this week. Cold North winds are still dominating most days with the occasional calm reminder we still live in paradise. The water temperature is hanging between 69-72 degrees with poor visibility and strong currents. That being said we are approaching mid February, with spring just around the corner, or so says the ground hog.
Â
Mackerel and Caballitos are widely available both in the bay and on the way to the fishing grounds. These are the favorite forage for the yellowtail and Cabrilla and a must to catch on your way out. Some days these critters are quick to bite and some days not so much. My advice, give your captains a little time to make bait , it will pay big dividends.

Fish Talk
As we continue to edge closer to spring, the winds should start to give way.
Â
This will allow our guides to travel further to the fishing grounds our scouts have already established are holding schools of yellowtail and Cabrilla.
Â
The few charters that braved the windy conditions this week were successful, this includes the ever so daring spear-fisherman who dove in the merky cold water, with 20lb class yellowtail Cabrilla and Pargo Colorado as their reward. Encouraging.
What's Next
Next week’s weather looks much better. We have many trips scheduled through out the week. This week should be a much better barometer of things to come. Fingers crossed.
Until next week,
Keep the faith
