La Paz Fishing Report: Warm Water and Inshore Action

Warm water and humid weather made fishing more mixed this week in La Paz. Offshore action slowed down, while boats found dorado, roosterfish, and snapper closer to shore.

Hot Weather and Warmer Water This Week

This week in La Paz came with plenty of heat, humidity, and a few storm systems moving around the area. The water is still crystal clear, which is always nice to see, but the warmer-than-usual temperatures have definitely changed the fishing a bit.

What we were afraid of finally happened: the water warmed up more than normal. With El Niño conditions in full swing, it is not a huge surprise, but it has made the bite less predictable. Some fish are still around, but the pattern has shifted, and the boats have had to adjust day by day.

Crowds also slowed down this past week as people head back to school and work. That means less traffic on the water, but the fishing itself has been more of a mixed bag.

Offshore Bite Slows Down

The offshore bite out of La Paz has slowed down. There are still some marlin around, but tuna have pretty much gone missing on the La Paz side for now.

Because of that, most boats have been staying closer to land instead of running far offshore. That has been the better call this week. With the warmer water and storm systems around, the offshore bite just has not been consistent enough to chase too hard.

Better Action Closer to Shore

Closer to shore, there is still some fun fishing to be had. We are seeing some roosterfish around, along with snapper and dorado in decent numbers when boats hit the right spot.

The dorado have not been everywhere, but they are still in the mix. Snapper have helped keep things interesting, and roosterfish are still giving anglers a chance at good inshore action. Bait supply is also still good, which gives the captains more options when the bite gets picky.

Pacific Side and What’s Ahead

Pacific side scouting has loosened up a bit too. There are still good numbers of tuna on that side, but the wahoo bite has slowed down as the water there is also warmer than usual.

Looking ahead, the next couple of weeks may stay pretty similar unless some of these storms help cool the water down a little. Hopefully we get enough weather to reset things, but nothing major enough to cause trouble.

All in all, this was a warm-water, mixed-bite kind of week. Offshore slowed down, inshore fishing stayed more interesting, and October should hopefully bring us back closer to regular good fishing.
