Anglers are enjoying success with both sardines and artificial lures, targeting these vigorous fighters in the vibrant waters of La Paz.

Semana Santa brought a lively atmosphere to La Paz, with the weather mostly cooperating despite a brief spell of strong west winds. We’re in the heart of yellowtail season, and it’s evident as most fishing spots are bustling with activity. The deeper areas are yielding mixed sizes, while the shallows continue to produce larger models. As we look forward to calmer days, we hope the abundant catches continue.

This past week, La Paz enjoyed fantastic weather, with sunny skies and pleasant temperatures. The local surface bite was exceptional, yielding hefty yellowtail in the 25-35 pound range. Anglers also discovered roosterfish in big numbers, promising an exciting season ahead. With the busiest week of Mexican spring break upon us, we anticipate an interesting impact on the bite.
Weekly Fishing Highlights: From Cool Mornings to Hot Catches
This week in La Paz, we focused on bottom fishing as surface activity slowed. Our anglers, equipped with larger bait and effective jigs, reeled in impressive yellowtail weighing 20-25 pounds, along with snappers and groupers. We also encountered early bull dorado activity, adding variety to our catches. Favorable conditions with surface water temperatures between 64-68 degrees and air temperatures ranging from 48 to 85 degrees ensured a successful week.
August Fishing Report
This year’s fishing season stands out with remarkable bull Dorado, some surpassing 40 lbs after a decade-long absence. Offshore, groups of 3-5 Striped Marlin offer frequent hookups near Punta Norte and El Charro seamounts, best caught by trolling small, light-colored lures. Tuna, averaging around 25 lbs, are 15-30 miles offshore beneath porpoises. Espíritu Santos island offers diverse catches including Dorado, Pargo Mulato, Cabrilla, and Cubera snapper. As summer wanes, hurricane concerns loom for September. October brings an extraordinary opportunity as fleets move to Mag Bay, promising unparalleled angling experiences on the 40’ Riviera with extensive fishing grounds.
Mid-July Fishing Report
The main game is still Dorado, this year has been one of the best in years for fish over 40lbs.
Team Baco won third in the Dorado tournament and 1st in the Marlin catch and release category.
Last week we also found large schools of spinner dolphins fairly close to shore well within our fishing range holding both large Dorado 40lb class and huge amounts of Tuna in the 25lb range.
