Fishing in La Paz, Baja California Sur, has been gradually improving through late April 2026, with spring conditions starting to line up across several zones. It’s not wide open just yet, but warmer water, improving clarity, better bait activity, and more variety in the catch are all good signs that the La Paz fishing season is starting to wake up.
La Paz Fishing Conditions Are Slowly Improving
Fishing the past few days has been gradually improving, with conditions starting to line up a little better across most zones. It’s not wide open yet, but you can definitely feel things trending in the right direction.
Some days are still slow and technical, while others are starting to produce better windows of action. That’s pretty normal for this time of year, especially during the transition into the spring and early summer fishing pattern.
Water Temps, Clarity, and Weather This Week
Water temps are warming up in patches, and clarity has been a bit mixed depending on where you are. Some areas are still a little off, but offshore and around structure, the water is starting to clean up.
Weather has been on our side overall, with light winds most mornings and comfortable conditions throughout the day. That has helped give boats a better shot at moving around, checking different zones, and staying flexible when the bite changes.
Bottom Fishing Remains the Main Action
Most of the action has been focused on bottom fishing, with some surface activity beginning to show here and there. Live bait has been key, with sardina and mackerel doing most of the work.
Jigging has also helped when fish are marking deeper or holding closer to structure. The guys mixing live bait, bottom fishing, and occasional surface work are getting the most out of the current conditions.
Yellowtail Are Finally Showing Signs of Life
After an unusually slow start to the yellowtail season, we’re finally starting to see more signs of life. A few yellowtail are starting to show up, and while it’s still not a wide-open bite, it’s definitely encouraging to see them becoming more active.
There have also been some solid almaco jacks around structure, adding a little more excitement to the deeper water action. With bait holding better and more fish marking below, things are starting to feel more like spring.
Roosterfish Activity Is Picking Up Along the Beaches
Roosterfish have also become very active along the beaches and around the islands. There are plenty of medium-sized fish around right now, and for those willing to put in the time, there are already some bigger ones in the mix.
This is a good sign as we move closer to the stronger roosterfish season. As conditions continue to stabilize and bait becomes more consistent, this fishery should keep getting better.
Dorado, Snapper, Grouper, and Almaco Jacks in the Mix
There’s been some nice variety creeping in this week. Along with yellowtail and almaco jacks, we’re seeing snapper, grouper, and even a few nice dorado already in the mix.
The dorado showing up this early is a good sign, especially as offshore activity begins to improve. It’s still early, but seeing more species in the spread is always a good indication that things are starting to transition.
Staying Flexible Is the Key Right Now
One thing worth noting is that we’re seeing more signs of life overall. Bait is holding better, fish are marking deeper, and there’s more activity offshore.
The key right now is staying flexible. Some days it’s slow and technical, and other days you hit the right zone and get a solid window of action. Moving between zones, adjusting techniques, and paying attention to what the conditions are doing has been the best approach.
Final Thoughts: Good Signs for the Spring Season
Overall, La Paz fishing is not quite “on fire” yet, but it’s getting closer. With yellowtail starting to wake up, roosterfish becoming more active, and more variety showing up, the season is shaping up to be a promising one.
That’s the scoop for now — good signs, improving conditions, and definitely good vibes ahead.
