Weekly Fishing Highlights: From Cool Mornings to Hot Catches

La Paz Fishing Report

10th - 17th March 2024

Greetings from BACo, where another week of fishing adventures has unfolded in the waters of La Paz. This time around, our expeditions didn’t venture far, as the action was right in our backyard. With surface activity taking a bit of a breather, we shifted our focus to bottom fishing, and the results were nothing short of spectacular.

Our anglers, armed with larger bait and an arsenal of effective jigs like the Mustad Staggerbod and Williamson Kensaki, found themselves in a tug-of-war with some of the most sought-after species in the area. The yellowtail were out in full force, with catches weighing in at a hefty 20-35 pounds. But the excitement didn’t stop there; our waters also yielded snappers and groupers ranging from 5-30 pounds. As always, we made sure to practice responsible fishing, releasing many of the smaller catches back into the blue.

Adding to the week’s highlights was an unexpected early showing of bull dorado, which brought an extra dash of variety and excitement to our expeditions.

The conditions were as favorable as ever, with surface water temperatures oscillating between 64-68 degrees. The air temperature saw quite a range, starting off at a cool 48 in the morning and climbing to a warm 85 by midday. Despite some persistent winds from the west, our boats had no trouble making their way back to shore, each time with a full haul to show for their efforts.

A special highlight of the week was Captain José’s son, Alex, who celebrated his 15th birthday with a memorable fishing trip. Young Alex managed to reel in three impressive yellowtails, outshining his experienced father, who lost two. It was a day of laughter, friendly rivalry, and unforgettable catches.

As the season kicks off, we’re excited to welcome back our returning customers from California and Texas, who have become like family over the years. And for those looking to venture further afield, we’ve got something special in store. Reports of exceptional yellowtail fishing up north have prompted us to organize liveaboard trips to the northern islands aboard our 41′ Riviera. The basic package offers 3 full days of fishing and 4 nights’ accommodation for up to 4 anglers, all for a total cost of $6,500, or $1,625 per person. It’s an adventure not to be missed, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
