Weather & Bait

Summer weather is in full swing here in southern Baja. The evenings are quite pleasant giving way to very hot and humid days. We had another Torito (thunderstorm) on Thursday dumping huge amounts of rain causing some flooding around the city and malecón. The crowds are starting to thin out as summer vacations are ending and people are gearing up for school.

Schools of fish have made the rounds here and there, but we haven’t struck luck with the big ones just yet…

Fish Talk

Nothing has changed much with our bait supplies. We are getting quality sardines around Tecolote and squid slabs are available at our office. There is a tonnage of bait on the seamounts, if your looking for some incredible tuna or marlin candy this is definitely worth spending a few minutes of your morning pursuing.
The water is trying real hard to get right. We are real close to excellent conditions. The color is mostly blue and improving daily and the temperatures are now ranging from 82-86 degrees.

Regarding fishing I believe we are definitely turning the corner, better late the never. Although wahoo have been elusive the Tuna are starting to make a more consistent showing. These fish are still moving around a bit but their locations are becoming more predictable. Dorado are making a strong showing just about everywhere. The schools are definitely mixed with large and peanuts size fish but there’s plenty of nice eating size to be caught. Please release the little guys they will grow quickly and be available for the anglers this fall. Both Stripe and Blue marlin are now in and being caught daily. These species are being found on the seamounts and Cerralvo Island. We had one boat this week caught and released 3 Stripes and 1 Blue marlin, limits of Dorado and was back in the marina by 2:00pm. That’s a busy day.

Assuming we don’t get any crazy weather , (so far all the storms have gone far West of us ) I can’t see any reason our fishing shouldn’t bust wide open any time now.
If the heat doesn’t bother you and incredible fishing for Baja’s Pelagic’s is your desire then come on down. Now is the time, are charters are filling up fast.
We also have a new addition to our fleet coming in October.
